Middlesmoor is at the head of Nidderdale, an unspoilt rural village with cobbled streets. The beautiful church of St Chad’s has often been said to have one of the best views from any church in England, overlooking the breath-taking beauty of the Nidderdale Valley. The present Grade 2 listed church dates from 1866, but there has been a church here since earliest times. Inside the church is an old preaching cross which legend says St Chad preached near. St Chad’s celebrates what has affectionately become known as a monthly ‘Methlican Service,’ a joint Anglican and Methodist service. This All Age Service (which occasionally celebrates Holy Communion) has proven very popular with locals up and down the Dale. There are several services dedicated to rural and local traditions e.g. the Lambing Service in May and the Bell Festival in June. In the winter months we have been fortunate enough to celebrate a Café Church service in How Stean Gorge Café.
St Chad’s is a spiritual home for many, providing a tranquil space to connect or reconnect with God. St Chad's Cross The stone cross shown inside St Chad's is claimed to be anglo saxon and is inscibed Cross of St. Ceadda (Chad).
Whilst visiting St Chad’s why not visit How Stean Gorge, Lofthouse? Whether for the scrumptious café or to explore the steep-sided chasm with natural caves it’s worth a visit.
